Aurelion the Dawn Sovereign
Type: NPC — Creature (Griffin) Role: Former prized sire of the House Belabrenta griffin bloodline; now a party companion and mount Status: Alive — CURED (blight fully removed, Session 064); bears blight scars; siring days over; gifted to the party by Lady Bellebranta First Appearance: Session 062
Description
A massive griffin — once magnificent. The sire of House Bellebranta's most prestigious pedigree. His condition deteriorated after ingesting a blighted horse: seeping necrotic energy, panicked, scratching claw marks into everything within reach, hearing things no one else can. Now cured.
He devoured a blighted horse during an unauthorized flight with Jaster Rell over the Mere of Dead Men. That was the point of infection.
What the Party Knows
- Session 062: Tracked to a forest glade near Kryptgarden Forest. Moist (python form) constricted him; KeYs cast Greater Restoration (partial relief); Crowley applied Iron Bands of Binding. Restrained and transported to Feathergale Spire.
- A blighted bronze dragon (Umsheryoth) crashed into the glade during the party's capture attempt, crying "Release my brother." This was blight-madness resonance between two infected creatures — no actual kinship established.
- Session 063: Still restrained at Feathergale Spire. Condition worsening. Greater Restoration's effects fading. Brick is managing with Sleep spells.
- Session 064: Gray flame torch applied by Emmith at Feathergale Spire. Medicine check 27 vs. DC 20. Blight fully cleansed — no trace remaining. He woke from sleep mid-procedure when the flame bit in; his eagle eyes locked with Emmith's; panic, then trust. He bears visible blight-scars and moves differently — still capable, reflexes intact, but the old grace is diminished. His value as a commercial sire is ruined by the stigma of former blight. Lady Bellebranta gifted him to the party, unable to pay gold. Crowley began bonding with fresh meat (Animal Handling 20 with advantage); Aurelion is timid but warming. He is now a party companion and mount.
