Baphomet, the Demon of the Hunt
Aliases: Beast Lord, Prince of Beasts Type: Demon Lord (Abyssal) Followers Encountered: Cultists below the Toke Inn (sessions 001–002), the Cult of Baphomet cell at Lodestone (sessions 005–006) First Reference: Session 001 (runes near the trapdoor)
What the Party Knows
- Session 001: First brush — runes near the trapdoor in the Toke Inn's basement, loosely translated "joy of the hunt, how wonderful to bathe in the blood of prey." Recognized as ideals of the Demon of the Hunt. (Lessie's fey background suggests there is some old fey-Baphomet connection.)
- Session 002: A werewolf-transformation ritual is interrupted in the cave below the inn. Bestial heads, braziers, an altar, a sacrificial pit shaft. Ubys impersonates Baphomet with Thaumaturgy and convinces cultists to step willingly into the pit.
- Session 003: A minotaur attacks the inn — Dhuxtyn and Ubys recognize it as a cursed-or-blessed form summoned through ritual when a task is needed. The minotaur drops a Great Axe marked in Barozod (primordial demonic). Talon Ashcraft's hidden letter is also in Barozod.
- Sessions 005–006: A barn at Lodestone has been converted into a Baphomet temple. Powdered silver ritual circle on the floor; alchemical supplies; lashings on the back wall; a trapdoor with prisoners (Capt. Tistel's knights). (The minotaur tracks led the party here.)
- Session 029: Ubys reads a Primeval Tablet — "Psalms of the Beast Lord, Baphomet" — recovered from the ogre altar deep beneath the Toke Inn. The cave's ancient carvings tell a story of a temple seized from "Elves" (proto-elven? ancestral Drow?), with a portal involved.
