Description
A cold-iron necklace worn by Old Gnaw-Bone under the terms of her penance and binding. Visually a piece of jewelry; functionally a mental binding that prevents her from acting against her sentence. The shackles incorporate a fragment of a godspark — specifically, Lathander's — and that fragment is what gives them their bind-a-Greatwyrm power.
Comparison to AC's Contract
Old Gnaw-Bone explicitly draws the parallel in session 018: the necklace is not unlike AC's Bone Contract. Both are binding objects worn at the throat; both restrict a being's agency under terms set by another power.
The differences identified so far:
- AC can take his off — physically, anyway; the contract still binds. (Greg: confirm — has AC physically removed the bone necklace at any point on-screen?)
- Old Gnaw-Bone cannot. Hers is a mental binding that defeats any attempt to remove it.
- AC's contract holder is Mizora (an affiliate of Zariel). Old Gnaw-Bone's holder is not yet named — but the godspark in her shackles is Lathander's, implying a Lathander-aligned (or Harpers-allied?) commission.
