Leilon Silver Mine
Type: Active silver mine (now compromised — bug infestation + collapse) Region: Sword Mountains foothills, immediately east of Leilon Operating Clan: Silvervein clan (led by Thaldrin Silvervein until session 020 / 023) Status (latest): Compromised. Bug-hive cleared by the party in sessions 020–022; rescue completed session 023 (~10% of the rescue party recovered, ~90% sealed off / presumed dead / driven into the Underdark toward Southkrypt) First Visited: Session 020
Description
A silver mine cut into the foothills of the Sword Mountains east of Leilon — visible from the town as a mountainous backdrop with the mine cut into it. The mine is very old (the entrance hall in session 020 reads "very old" with antique mining equipment in disuse). The Silvervein clan operates the active workings.
The mine's depth has, in this campaign, broken into one of two adjacent substrates — probably the Underdark (per session 023's "sealed off, presumably headed for Southkrypt via routes through the Underdark").
Layout (from sessions 020–022)
- Entrance hall (session 020) — very old; toppled mine carts; mining equipment strewn; two dwarven dead.
- Pillared chamber adjacent to the entrance — site of the centipede ambush; pillars ~30' high.
- Barracks chamber — old quartered dwarven sleeping space; site of the giant-beetle / cocoon-host engagement (session 020).
- Ore-processing area (session 021) — a presence lurking in the shadows above; no engagement.
- A second battle site (session 021) — more dead bugs and dwarves, including a town cobbler and the local apothecary; the apothecary's gilded duck-pattern apron remained unblemished by acid (gifted to AC).
- The collapse corridor (session 021) — where Thaldrin led the swarm; the corridor itself blocked, Donnic Wryvale pinned/bisected by a fallen support beam.
- Toxic-gas ventilation shafts (session 022) — bugs blocking the sun in the shafts; AC's torch-flame turning green/blue; party rushed through.
- The hive chamber (session 022) — natural cavern; green pulsating egg sacks; the Hive Queen with a body-sized egg sack; surrounded by Hunters and Beetles. Fight site of the Queen-kill.
Inhabitants (during the bug crisis)
- Centipedes — pillar-descending acid-and-poison spitters
- Giant beetles ("Hunters") — horse-sized, xenomorph-like; acid blood; cocoon hosts
- The Hive Queen — house-sized egg-laying matriarch; killed session 022
- (All surface bug presence cleared by session 022's end.)
Notable Loot Recovered (Sessions 020–023)
- (Sessions 020–022:) From the dwarven dead — 2 coin purses, a hammer, an axe (session 021).
- (Session 021:) The Apothecary's Gilded Duck-Pattern Apron — acid-resistant; gifted to AC by Ubys.
- (Session 023:) Reward — 5,000 GP banknote from Angus Silvervein in gratitude; 1,000 GP from the Knights of Vindictus scribe per the rescue mission's standing reward.
