Rhovan Tolk

Role: Son of Jorry Tolk; son of the Toke Inn; Wererat as of session 028 Status (latest): Alive; Wererat (intentionally infected; deliberately passed lycanthropy to his mother to save her from the Blight); member / leader of a wererat pack in the tunnels below the inn (per session 029) First Appearance: Mentioned in Session 001 (missing); rescued in session 002

Description

A young man — somewhere in his thirties at the time of rescue. The party's first mission as a unit was to find him.

What the Party Knows

  • Session 001: Disappeared the same night the party arrived. Took his father's old adventuring gear from the hidden basement chest.
  • Session 002: Found laid out on an altar in the cave system below the inn, being prepared as the sacrifice in a Baphometian werewolf-transformation ritual. Rescued by the party — Lessie carried him out of the tunnels; later carried him upstairs to bed (after fixing his spine).
  • Session 028: Revealed at the Toke Inn as a Wererat. A small, cloaked figure in rags by the hearth — 4' tall, possibly snouted under the hood — Rhovan reveals himself only after the party is barricaded inside and asks to see arms and legs first. He explains: lycanthropy counters the Blight (the curse and the disease occupy the same body-space, and lycanthropy wins). He deliberately passed lycanthropy to his mother to save her from the Blight. Jorry refused the cure and asked to be locked in the rookery instead.
  • Session 029: Confirmed as a leader (or the leader) of a wererat pack inhabiting the deeper tunnels. He escorts the party down through old territories — past where the rats fought above, where Lessie murdered cultists, and out to the lake where Falkor's egg was first found. He shares wererat lore and warns about the obsidian tendril growths.
  • Session 032: Approves Ubys's grey-flame cure attempt on his father. "He is time trying anything," Rhovan says — agreeing that Jorry has nothing to lose. The cure works; Jorry is purged of the Blight but falls into a coma. Rhovan refuses Ubys's additional proposal to infect Jorry with lycanthropy as a redundant counter. (He took the lycanthropy line as far as his mother — without strong consent — and will not extend it past Jorry without explicit assent.)
