Audrey Spring Bloom
Type: NPC — Pixie, Party Companion Role: Dragon scholar; party companion; ward of Lessie Status: Active — out of cage; traveling with the party; now in Leilon after a week of downtime (Session 041) First Appeared: Session 038 Origin: The Feywild Full Name: Audrey Spring Bloom (last name suggested by players, accepted by Greg in session 039)
What the Party Knows
A pixie from the Feywild, sold into the Shadowfell markets (probably Evernight) at some point prior to the session. She had been serving as a lantern for Brigharth the Drider — her Feywild-spectrum light keeps ghouls and similar undead from approaching. She was the sixth or seventh pixie in this role; previous ones died quickly in the Shadowfell.
The party purchased her from Brigharth for 500 gp (paid from Lessie's share of the Heiress loot).
Her name is Audrey (the table spelled it O-D-D-R-Y at one point; Greg's official spelling is Audrey).
Lessie fed her a Goodberry through the bars of the cold-iron cage and promised to get her home to the Feywild. Audrey agreed to travel with the party and guide them through the Shadowfell in exchange for protection and eventual passage home.
As of the end of Session 039, she is in Neftis — a city where her light is no longer the only protection against the undead. She was asleep in her cage at session-close, full of blackberry seeds and not actively glowing. The transition out of the cage is pending, but the city context makes it safe.
At the session's close Griggen noted: "Audrey Spring Bloom" in what appeared to be a name-acknowledgment moment — the table collectively gave her a last name and the DM accepted it.
What Audrey Knows
- The Shadowfell's roads and terrain between the Church of Sorrow and the Shadar-Kai settlement near Letherna — she guided the party east and northeast successfully.
- How to navigate Shadowfell hazards generally — what to avoid, what is safe-adjacent, what will kill you.
- The Feywild, presumably well. If the party ever routes through the Feywild, she is a potential guide and contact there.
Update — Session 041
Audrey is free. When the party returned through the portal to the Material Plane from the Greyflame Clan Hall, the Shadowfell danger was gone and the cold-iron cage became unnecessary. She came out quietly; the release was off-screen but confirmed. She has been sleeping, eating goodberries, and recovering. She looks better.
Dragon scholar — major reveal. Audrey has written three books on dragons (pixie-scale, but thorough). Her research provides the party with:
- Varagamanthir (brother) and Werverender (sister) — twin black dragons in the Mire of Dead Men, known collectively as "the Black Death." They present as one entity in all dealings; their separate identities are not generally known.
- A historical Cult of the Dragon cell in Leilon — possibly still active.
- Falkor's "miraculous conception" — the egg appeared from nowhere; Audrey does not know his parentage, but has connected lore: a pixie friend of hers was once summoned to a plane of enslaved dragon-people who were prophesied to be freed by a platinum-colored dragon born from an egg. The egg may have come from that world — stolen or miraculously transported.
Audrey's backstory — the rakshasa. Her dragon books were stolen by an evil tiger-faced wizard — almost certainly a Rakshasa (her description matches). He imprisoned her, stripped her library into his personal collection, and sold her into Shadowfell slavery when he had gotten what he wanted. She wants revenge. The party has put it on their list.
Audrey joins the Band of the Raven. She agreed to travel with the party. She is excited about the Mire of Dead Men in particular — it's the most dragon-dense region on the Sword Coast and she's never been.
The Feywild thread. Her pixie friend (who has the dragon-people lore) is in the Feywild. Audrey cannot get home on her own — she doesn't know a door from this area. The party has promised to eventually find a route and get her home.
