Evernight
Type: Shadowfell city / region — the mirror-counterpart of Neverwinter in the Shadowfell Region: The Shadowfell (the upside-down / dark-reflection version of the Sword Coast) Status (latest): Visited — Session 054. The party entered the city, navigated to the Temple of Filth, and used the gnoll transit portal to exit to the Dessarin Valley. (Prior status: off-screen, referenced only.) First Reference: Session 035
What the Party Knows
- Evernight is the Shadowfell mirror of Neverwinter — the same coastal-city tile, "flipped" into the upside-down realm.
- Mythrades was born there — "That is where I was born. But it is not where I was born." (The line — under Zone of Truth — separates the vessel-body of Mythrades's Nagpa-form from the original birthplace of his soul; he has been "born" hundreds of times.)
- Per Greg's table-side description: "A horrible cesspool of ghouls and ghosts, darkness and decay, undead, and horrible stuff."
The Soul-Siphoning Laboratory (revealed Session 039)
In Session 039, during the soul-trace ceremony at the Temple of Nine Feathers using Crowley's necklace as a focus, the party saw a vision of the following:
Location: Underground. Somewhere beneath or within Evernight.
What was seen:
- A large laboratory
- Glass vats filled with greenish and purplish swirling liquid
- Hoses running from the vats to a central point
- An emaciated, levitating figure at the center, being fed by whatever the vats contained
- The gradual, horrifying recognition: the vats contain liquefied souls — souls distilled and fed into the central figure like fuel
- The central figure is a Nagpa — or something of the same order; it has been using this method "on a dozen worlds already"
This is the end-state of the Blight cycle: worlds seeded with the Blight, pushed to their destruction sequence, and souls siphoned off as the world ends. The laboratory in Evernight is where those souls are processed.
Clan Greyflame's read: "Twelve worlds already gone. The same method every time." The party is World Thirteen.
What the Party Learned in Session 054
- Governance: Evernight is run by a council of vampires and ghoul kings. The flesh trade is the primary economy. Mortal visitors are regarded as either merchandise or threats.
- Temple of Filth: The primary Orcus cathedral in the city; controlled by Ursuntos (High Priest, 10-12ft ghoul). Houses a portal to the Dessarin Valley, Forgotten Realms — the one Mithraides used to transit his gnoll army through. The party used this portal after providing a mortal sacrifice (Orin).
- Two unknown dragons are present in the city. KeYs sensed them via dragon bond. Not Zago or Falkor — likely shadow dragons or an elder black dragon integrated into the city's power structure.
- The Umbral Essence winery estate (hill above the city outskirts) was used as a gnoll staging area; the party arrived at this location via the Brookside portal.
- Grey-Robed Order nexus: Nimri knows of a Grey-Robed Order waypoint accessible from the Shadowfell — an alternate route home that bypasses Evernight. It is far away.
