Feathergale Spire

Naming note: The existing Dessarin Valley stub uses "Feathergale Tower" and associates the site with the Knights of Samular. The Session 054 transcript uses "Feathergale Spire" and also associates it with griffin riders. These likely refer to the same location. Greg should confirm which name is canonical for this vault; links will be standardized once confirmed.

Type: Military tower / Griffin-rider fortress Location: Dessarin Valley, Forgotten Realms Controlling Power: Knights of Samular (griffin-mounted order) Status (latest): Active — holding, depleted. The Spire successfully defended the Session 055 battle with party assistance, but lost 8 of ~30 knights to Chasme Drone attacks. 77 Brookside refugees are camped outside the walls. Road to Goldenfields is blockaded; supply situation is precarious. First Reference: Session Zero / Dessarin Valley stub; First on-screen: Session 054

What the Party Knows

  • It's a griffin-mounted fortress belonging to the Knights of Samular, an order operating in the Dessarin Valley.
  • It was actively fighting Mithraides' gnoll army when the party arrived in the Dessarin Valley. Griffin riders circled, ballistas fired from the walls.
  • The party was on a cliff overlooking this battle at session's end. Assisting the Knights (while the old Brookside party + Zago handle the refugees) is an obvious next move.
  • Moist's lore background and/or prior-campaign knowledge may include familiarity with this tower / the Knights of Samular.

What Happened (Sessions 055–057)

  • Session 055: Party joins the battle against 3 Chasme demons + gnolls + an Orcus wizard. Seven knights killed in Round 1 by Chasme Drone attacks. Party kills the demons; wizard escapes via Staff of Power retributive strike. Dunkel Spireward thanks the party; 77 Brookside refugees arrive.
  • Session 056: Party guests at the Spire. Dunkel's intel briefing on the Dessarin Valley. Refugees housed outside the walls. Two funerary traditions on display: chapel for the Waterdeep nobles, cliff-face ledge for the vulture riders. Residents: Brick (level 20 wizard; proprietor of Bricks and Figs magic college built into the adjacent cliff face; non-combatant). Current garrison: ~22 riders after losses.
  • Session 057: Party departs to escort noble bodies to Waterdeep. Spire not visited this session.
