Bedegar Keep
Also known as the Fortress of Memories. The two names are interchangeable in the auction-floor framing; this stub uses Bedegar Keep as the primary entry.
Type: Destroyed-realm keep — the seat-fortress of a whole world that ended Region: (The Brookside pocket plane — an Abyssal pocket plane within the 273rd layer, coextensive with Crowley's home world of Bakersfield) Status (latest): Occupied — active threat. The Wraith King and Mithrades / The Engineer are operating the keep. A soul-channeling portal exists within the keep; a binding stone beneath the keep tethers the pocket plane to the Abyss. The World Eater roams the plane outside the keep. Not one soul from this realm has passed through Letherna. What the Party Knows (Session 034)
- The keep was Blighted at the time of the world's end.
- The realm — the entire world the keep sat on — was destroyed.
- Not one of its souls passed through the Shadowfell. Per Greyden: "How a whole culture, a whole world, was destroyed — and not one of its souls went through your mistress."
- The Shadowvar do not know the answer to that question; they want it enough to pay a very high sum for an explanation.
- AC / Crowley knows the silhouette of the keep from a previous life. In the moment of the Heiress-asks-for-the-Tomb-map, AC drew a half-remembered shape — riffing off a Bedegar reference Greyden had just made — and The Engineer recognized it. The Engineer's reaction ("This is where it all began") suggests the Engineer's plan and Bedegar's destruction are the same arc.
What the Party Knows (Session 051 — Zago's Intel)
- The Wraith King and Mithrades / The Engineer are operating the keep. Both are confirmed present. Their relationship — partner or subordinate — is unresolved.
- A soul-channeling portal is inside the keep. Zago confirmed that souls are being channeled through a portal. This explains the Shadowvar mystery: the souls from the Bedegar realm are being redirected, not destroyed. Where they go after the portal is unknown.
- There is a binding stone beneath the keep. The stone tethers the pocket plane to the Abyss. Zago stated that cutting the tether would release the plane. What this means for the World Eater, for the portal, and for the survivors is uncertain.
- "The nobles" seized Zago's lair. The Wraith King's lieutenants took the dragon's full hoard. The keep's operation involves a chain of command below the Wraith King himself.
