Maw Chamber
Type: Cave chamber / submerged ritual installation / former Roper hunting ground Region: Tunnels Beneath the Toke Inn — reached via a 40–50' cliff drop below the lower spire altar First Visited: Session 030 Status (latest): Roper killed; Quippers banked; party has not yet taken either of the two outbound holes (SW and SE).
Layout
- The cliff entry. A 40–50' sheer drop down from the corridor that exits the lower spire altar chamber. The party had to scale it carefully on first descent.
- The waterfall. 500 feet tall, at least 20' wide. Deafening. Falls into the central lake.
- The lake / pool. Beneath the waterfall. Holds:
- Four black-stone monoliths — 50' tall, ~half submerged, arranged in a square pattern. Carved with bestial runes — commandments of the Beast Lord (per Ubys's ascending read in session 030).
- A submerged Proto-Elven temple — bestial / demonic runes continuing below the waterline. Partially explored by Lessie in crocodile form. Banked for future return.
- Quippers — swimming pack, scared off by the Roper's death-crash. Still present; return-trip risk.
- The two side holes.
- SW hole — banked.
- SE hole — banked.
- (Per session 031, the party takes the left hole — the one with tracks in/out — to reach the Rat Queen Chamber. Worth confirming whether SW or SE is "left" from the party's entry orientation.)
What the Party Knows
- The chamber is older than the Beast Lord's tenancy. The monoliths are Proto-Elven (or pre-Drow ancestral) work, with Baphomet runes carved over them in a later era.
- The previous holder of the Elven Chain — an unknown Elven figure — died on top of the monolith, taken by the Roper. Bones recovered alongside the chain.
- The bestial runes are the same script as the Primeval Tablet (session 029) and the Letter Found Beneath Talon's Bed (session 003) — one liturgical hand across the whole network.
