What the Party Knows

  • Mid-to-late sixties. In his prime he was clearly a formidable soldier; the bearing remains even as age has caught up. He speaks with an officer's care and precision.
  • He is from Westbridge. He was a teenager when the town was destroyed. His family held Helvenblade House — a manor, a minor noble seat — in the Dessarin Valley. He came south after the destruction, joined the military, rose, and rebuilt his family's fortunes in Waterdeep.
  • He knows the party's reputation. He heard about the funeral procession and the demon-fighting exploits up north before they ever arrived at his door.
  • He granted the party Helvenblade House. In response to the party's Westbridge settlement pitch, he gave them full use of the manor and its surrounding lands, and offered financial backing from his personal coffers. He said, "I would absolutely like to be part of that."
  • He has a daughter. Dala Silmerhelve is his heir — late twenties to early thirties, strong family resemblance, present at the meeting. He is not young, and he knows it.
  • Bronze dragon connection. When he was a child, Helvenblade House was cared for by a bronze dragon — a childhood friend of his. The dragon was "called up" when the war came and never returned. He doesn't know what became of him.
  • His family has draconic history. House Silmerhelve is known throughout Waterdeep as good people, with rumored past connections to bronze dragons specifically.
  • Strategic thinker. He quickly identified the problem with southern supply routes (gnoll lines blockading Goldenfields) and suggested approaching Westbridge from the north, via Yartar.
  • Politically honest. He was frank about Waterdeep's limits: the lords won't march north without a formal request from Alondriel the Empty King, and he doesn't expect one. The city's military is for the city.
  • His name opens doors. He still has contacts in the Dessarin Valley and offered letters of introduction for the party's future use.
  • He warned about a cult. A small growing group on the coast is proclaiming the return of Bahamut. Once they hear about Falkor, their attention will turn to the party.
  • He offered a second task. House Belabrenta's prize griffin is missing; many suspect House Valmora. He suggested the party — as outsiders with no political stake — might be well placed to investigate quietly.
