That's So Raven

The throne chamber emptied into your cart.

Ubys walked the bodies one last time — Bargnot, the Curse-Spitter, the warriors, the lackeys — and Decomposed each in turn so nothing got up after you. The goblin den was yours. The writs were in Teppo's hand. The cart was loaded and the sun was high.

You rolled out around noon.

Foothills of the Sword Mountains gave way to a cut through two ridges, and the ridges opened east toward the Dessarin Valley. Past the cut, rolling plains. Far ahead and to the north, the dark silhouette of the Kryptgarden Forest.

Around mid-afternoon you found a stream feeding a small pool. Teppo said this was the last water you'd see before the forest. You drank. You filled your skins. Mud drank, too.

You camped just shy of the tree-line.

Bree pitched two of Ben's canvas tents — one for him, one for herself. Ubys took first watch and asked Teppo for his lyre. Teppo handed it over. Ubys, it turns out, plays.

Then Teppo stood up.

"Hey, I have story…"

He stepped onto the wagon. He told the Heroes of the Lance. A great army from the north. Gryphon-riders. Dragons. Vlokgar. A bar fight with a Fire Giant. He embellished it with Thaumaturgy and Ubys embellished it back, and for a moment the firelight had soldiers in it.

Then a roar — not Teppo's, not Ubys's — boomed over a rocky outcropping nearby.

Sixty feet out, a shape unfolded itself onto the air. Scaly wings. Two legs. A long tail with a stinger.

Lessie asked Falkor: is that kin?

The answer came back: no.

A wyvern.

It came down on KeYs first — claws into her shoulder, then a stinger that took 27 across two strikes. Moist summoned his Phoenix-spirit and teleported KeYs out of the wyvern's grasp. She chose to reappear directly above the thing, and dropped onto its back. From up there she went to work with her javelins.

The wyvern, baffled by the rider it could not reach, turned on Moist instead — bit hard, missed its sting, lashed out. The rest of you closed in. Dhuxtyn kept Eldritch Blasting from under the wagon ("You stole my move!"). Lessie tossed Magic Stone after Magic Stone ("Hey! You don't hit my friends!"). Ubys carved chunks of Guiding Bolt out of the air.

Round four, the wyvern clawed KeYs hard enough to drop her — still on its back — and lashed Falkor with a poisoned tail.

Ubys ran in. He leapt onto the wyvern itself. He cast Cure Wounds on KeYs. He teleported back.

Round five, Lessie cast Earth Tremor and the wyvern went prone. KeYs rode the tremor down and dismounted. The wyvern stood up, tried to flee — flew low, forty feet — and Ubys's last Guiding Bolt caught it mid-air.

It fell.

Teppo climbed out of the cart. "Is it gone?"

KeYs harvested the scales. She harvested the poison sac. Ubys Decomposed what was left.

You slept at the forest's edge.
