Temple of Nine Feathers
Type: Location — Temple / Sacred Site Region: Neftis, Letherna (Shadowfell) Status: Active — the Nine reside and work here; party visited in Session 039 Significance: Center of Neftis; seat of the Nine; home of the soul-containers and the forge First Appeared: Session 039
Description
Sharp-spired and angular, at the top of Neftis's spiral streets — the temple around which the entire city has organized itself, the way everything in a harbor eventually points toward the sea. The party approached it first from below, climbing through the city; a ceremony was already underway when they arrived.
The temple is the seat of the Nine: nine figures, each associated with an animal domain, who serve the Raven Queen's interests in Neftis. The temple also functions as the threshold-point of the city — between the city below and the Fortress of Memories above on the mountain.
Known Areas and Features
The Main Hall Where Hauris was conducting the first soul-trace ceremony when the party arrived — a black disc on the floor, a crystal vial at its center, green wisps rising and attempting to form a picture. The party did not interrupt; they stood at the edge and watched.
The soul container wall is in or adjacent to this space — where the Shadar-Kai soul containers are kept. One Nightweaver's container is present but vacated.
The Library (smaller room off the main hall) Where Hoth brought the party. Griggen and The Chronicler were already inside. The second soul-trace ceremony happened here, using Crowley's necklace as a focus and Griggen as a guide, with Hauris working the disc and salt. The vision of the Evernight soul-lab emerged from this ceremony.
The Raven Queen arrived here — through the window, as a hundred ravens, then as herself.
The Forge of Memories Attached to the temple. The Nine operate it. The mechanic: the forge accepts a weapon + a magic item + a significant memory as sacrifice. The memory is consumed — the person who gives it loses it permanently and cannot recover it. What emerges is something new: an item fusing properties of both inputs, with a side effect or curse shaped by the nature of the memory lost.
Three forge runs completed in Session 040:
| PC | Input | Result | Curse | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ubys | Voidfang + (item TBC) | Voidfang powered up | Cannot tolerate sentient items (maybe — Greg confirm) | (TBC) |
| Ubys | Elven Chain + Lightning Resistance | Lightning Resistant Elven Chain (merged) | Extreme swim check difficulty | Wedding to Bast — Ubys no longer knows he is married |
| Dhuxtyn | Pan flute + +2 mace | +2 pan flute | Blind to undead unless playing; haunted feminine voice | Seelie Court love |
| Crowley | Whisper + Searing Fork | (uncertain — Greg confirm if this run occurred) | (TBC) | (TBC) |
Full mechanic detail: see Forge of Memories. ⚠ The original session-040 transcript record had Crowley's run with a swim check curse — player memory contradicts this. Corrected above; tracker updated to match.
The forge is consistent with Raven Queen theological themes: endings become something else. The cost is not symbolic — it is literal and permanent.
