Nimri Greyflame

Race / Type: Dwarf Role: Clan Greyflame field agent — stranded survivor scribe Affiliation: Clan Greyflame / The Grey-Robed Order Status (latest): Alive — free and at Feathergale Spire with the refugees and Brick. No longer trapped in the Brookside pocket plane; escaped with the party from the Abyss. Has a recall spell that will return him to Greyflame HQ, which he is holding in reserve until his mission is complete. First Appearance: Session 049

What the Party Knows

  • He was sent to stop the destruction. Nimri is a member of Clan Greyflame — the same interplanar Blight-fighting order that sent three dead scouts through the Netherese Portal beneath the Toke Inn. He arrived in the Brookside realm years ago with a mission: stop Mythrades from activating the chaos seed, or failing that, extract survivors. He failed at the first. He was caught when the plane folded into the Abyss and has been trapped ever since.

  • He sustains the survivors. Without Nimri, the people in the forest camp would starve. He writes Create Food and Water scrolls — as many as the holy site of the chapel bubble allows him to scribe — and Shaylin ferries them between the bubbles. He has been doing this for roughly two subjective years (Abyss-time).

  • He explained the lore of the chaos seed. In Session 049, Nimri delivered the key exposition about the World Eater's origin: the outer gods' chaos seeds, the prime bloodlines (light and darkness), Mithrades's corruption of the mechanism, and how Crowley's and Leigha's combined blood — used at Bedegar Keep — activated the five-year gestation countdown.

  • He has met Crowley before. He recognized Crowley and knew his history. He's had years to think about what Crowley did and why.

  • He is not angry at Crowley. He understands the act: removing the godspark from Leigha kept it from Mithrades. It was an imperfect plan that accidentally bought the survivors twenty years.

  • He appears unaffiliated with Griggen. The party has not yet made the connection between Nimri and Griggen (the dwarf elder of Clan Greyflame met in Neftis during Session 039). Griggen did not know his three scouts were dead; he certainly does not know Nimri is alive and stranded. See DM Notes.

  • Session 063 — the Revelation at Feathergale Spire: Nimri confirmed and expanded the lore of the gray flame and the Apocalypse Beetles:

    • Gray flame torches are made from Apocalypse Beetle secretions, ignited through holy/radiant fire.
    • The Apocalypse Beetles appear when the Elder (Outer) Gods determine a world has crossed the Blight threshold — "a precursor to Armageddon."
    • The iridescent beetles the party fought in the Leilon mines were Apocalypse Beetles. The party destroyed them. That supply is gone.
    • Chaos seeds — planted or arriving in worlds — initiate the destruction cycle and birth World Eaters. The Caves of Chaos chaos seed was one such.
    • The same prophecy applies here ("light and dark unite, moon turns to blood") as in Crowley's world. The symmetry is not lost on anyone.
    • A gray flame torch will cure Aurelion's blight. Greyflame HQ likely has one or two. He didn't use his recall spell to fetch one because his mission isn't done. He named Sir Titus in Yartar as an alternative source.
    • He has been researching with Brick at the Spire since the refugees arrived.
