High Tower of Thalivar

Type: Ruined tower; site of an Asmodean burial chamber Location: Leilon (within the town walls) Status (latest): Mazros the Cursed Baron banished; beacon extinguished; Sir Titus's Holy Avenger retrieved by KeYs — as of Session 041. Ground still spiritually tainted; not consecrated. The tower itself stands empty. First Reference (in-fiction): Leilon townsfolk associate the tower with a "deep evil" that began Leilon's 3-year, 3-month restoration period First Visited: Session 009

Description

A ruined stone tower in Leilon, long abandoned and partially demolished. The upper rubble harbors squatter camps and Baphometian graffiti — "local teens, maybe." Beneath the rubble, a hidden Infernal tile sequence ("Enter" / "1 of 10") opens a staircase down to:

  • A circular chamber, ~80' across, with a massive Storm Giant- or Titan-sized skull at its center.
  • Two stone figures — a halfling and a half-elf — flanking a bronze doorway.
  • Beyond the bronze doorway: a long hall, two banshees, and an Asmodean burial chamber at the far end.

Lore

  • "3 years, 3 months ago restoration began; a deep evil originating from the High Tower of Thalivar."Leilon folk-history, recited when the party arrives.
  • The buried chamber's coffin / crypt bears the name Asmodeus.
  • The mix of Asmodean burial + Baphometian graffiti above + a Storm-Giant-sized skull suggests the site has been occupied by multiple traditions over centuries — the present demonic graffiti is a layer over a far older Asmodean shrine, which itself overlays something even older (the giant-skull layer).

What the Party Recovered

  • Nothing material — combat consumed the session and the chamber was sealed by a Knights of Vindictus knight at session 010's close, before the party could fully investigate. (Open thread.)

Update — Session 041

Mazros the Cursed Baron had been pinned to the tower stone for weeks — Sir Titus departed for Yartar shortly after the binding, and the devil was left there with no one willing or able to free him. Moist approached, conducted a respectful conversation, and cast Banishment. Mazros voluntarily accepted the casting (declining to use his Legendary Resistance) and was returned permanently to Avernus.

Sir Titus's Holy Avenger — the blade through the demon's chest — remained in the stone after the banishment. The party extracted it (Strength DC ~15). KeYs claimed it.

The great moonbeam/beacon disappeared with Mazros.

The ground beneath the tower is described by the DM as "less tainted than it was — I wouldn't build your house on it." No consecration or Hallow was cast (too high a spell level). The party recommended burning the tower; Mayor Angus Silvervein said he'd consider it.
