Mazros the Cursed Baron
Type: Devil — 9'-tall; a Baron of Avernus Affiliation: Avernus / Zariel-aligned (strongly implied — the Searing Fork is Avernus war gear, per Mizora) Status (latest): BANISHED — returned to Avernus permanently via Moist's Banishment spell, Session 041. Voluntarily failed the Charisma save. The great beacon extinguished at the moment of departure. Sir Titus's Holy Avenger remained in the tower stone; KeYs retrieved it. First Appearance: Session 026
Description
A nine-foot devil. Reddish skin. Huge horns. Long sunken face. Horned, spiked hide. Wears a leather skirt of sorts. Possesses (or possessed) the Searing Fork — a +2 hellfire pitchfork recognized by AC from Mizora's earlier accounts as Avernus-war gear.
His voice carries telepathically. He has called Ubys "Preacher" — the same endearment Mizora uses for Ubys. The implication is read by the party as he knows Ubys, or knows about Ubys, through Mizora's network or through the Avernus-side cosmology Mizora is part of.
What the Party Knows (Session 026)
- Summoned at the KoV tower in Leilon by the Scribe (Ralph/"Scooter") — confirmed by Sir Titus and by AC's read of the summoning circle.
- Mazros's name in the circle activated his roar. Naming him without warding animated the binding.
- The dawn tortures him — the binding's torque is sun-aware, possibly Lathander-coded.
- Sir Titus refuses to free him — even pinned to the tower with his own sword.
- After Moist scrubs the summoning circle with Shape Water, the binding's state changes. The most likely result (see DM Notes): the binding moves into Sir Titus's body.
- Mazros has called to AC: the "Preacher, I hear you…" opener (echoing Mizora) was his voice, not Mizora's. AC went out and held a conversation with him — opening in Infernal before switching to Common.
Update — Session 041
After ten days pinned in the tower stone (Sir Titus had departed for Yartar), Moist approached Mazros and offered to send him home via Banishment. The conversation was respectful — Moist explicitly did not try to deceive him. Mazros noted that the party member he was speaking to (implied to be AC/Crowley) had once been a "sworn enemy" of Sir Titus and that "you totally didn't like each other" — but Crowley showed no memory of this. (The forge sacrifice at the Temple of Nine Feathers took that memory. The demon's confusion was the first in-fiction consequence of that loss.)
Mazros accepted the casting willingly. He had legendary resistance but chose not to use it. The minute of concentration passed. He returned to Avernus permanently.
Sir Titus's Holy Avenger — the blade through his chest — stayed behind in the stone. The party extracted it. KeYs now holds it.
