The Heiress of Orcus

Type: Cult leader — successor to a Zariel-cult cell, now devoted to Orcus Status (latest): Defeated in session 034 — loot distributed across the party Cult Base: Heiress's Manor — a ruined castle-compound north of Phandalin, previously held by Zariel-cult forerunners (the pre-Twin Mephisto cell); before that, the Cragmaw Clan First Reference: Session 003 First On-Screen: Session 033 (scouted by AC from the courtyard's sewer drain)

Description

A huge ogre-ish woman, beyond obese with festering pustules, per AC's sketches when he scouted her sleeping quarters in session 033. She slept while her goblin servants prepared for the auction the next day, surrounding her with food and copper braziers.

What the Party Knows

  • Session 003: Named in the letter as the buyer-side organizer of the auction the egg was destined for.
  • The Heiress's own seller-list at the auction is distinct from the Mephisto Twins' seller-list (per Greg, λ-032/033 batch wrap-up — two distinct lots at one venue). Her lots, as known so far: adamantium weapons / armor (source unattributed) and "The Lost King's scroll" (artifact of The Nameless King — Sorcerer / Lich-King of the City of Portals; not connected to Alondriel).
  • Session 005 (pre-session note): The manor was previously owned by Zariel cultists but has since been "lost" to those following the Heiress of Orcus. They had hired Talon Ashcraft to hide/guard/watch the egg.
  • Session 033 — Tomorrow's Rot. AC rode warhorse-Moist south from the Toke Inn, jumped the cut-tree ambush (crow-feather-notched body in the brush), turned north at the Phandalin / Conyberry / Leilon crossroads, and entered the surrounding wood alone. He spent hours lost before finding the circular goblin-patrol route and aiming for its center. The center was the ruined castle-compound (see Heiress's Manor). He found a moss-covered sewer drain at the back wall — the lock alone was un-mossed — picked it, and slipped into the courtyard. There he saw her: sleeping, huge, Ogre-ish, beyond obese, festering pustules, surrounded by goblins laying out food and copper braziers. He sketched her, the chamber, the patrol pattern, the brazier prep, and the overhead walkway before locking the drain and slipping back out. (Sketches now part of AC's growing intelligence library — see Session 033 DM Notes.)
  • Session 034 — the auction proper. Hosted the auction at the manor (co-hosted with the Shadowvar running the floor; the Society of the Veil hired for security). Won Sir Gertz for >220,000 GP (her bidding-target; she wanted Gertz for the Knights-of-Vindictus directions to the Tomb of Orcus that he carries under compulsion). Wore a glowing-blue medallion through the entire event *(the Medallion; identified by Greyden as a Knock-class key, very probably the binding-key for Ser Vindictus's captivity in the Tomb).* The Mephisto Twins were fixated on the medallion through every lot.
  • Session 034 — the fall. When The Engineer recognized AC as Crowley and named the godspark on his neck, the Heiress raised four Spawns of Orcus as her opening lair-action (one each on Crowley / Lessie / KeYs / Moist) and spewed necrotic in a 30-ft cone. Across rounds 1–6 she was immobile (init ~0; she did not move) but her lair-cycle of necrotic + worm-rider Spawns chewed at the courtyard. KeYs and Falkor killed her at HP ~200; the killing strike landed in Mythrades's Cone-of-Cold turn. The Spawns were mopped up by the standing party after.
  • Session 034 — the hoard. Her hoard distributed in a 6-round loot rotation across Moist, KeYs, Ubys, AC / Crowley, Dhuxtyn, and Lessie. Total value ~12,600 GP equivalent. (See the Loot of the Heiress of Orcus section in That's So Raven Campaign Notes for the round-table; per-recipient highlights in Session 034 - The Auction and the Name Loot & Mechanical Outcomes; full damage / round log in Combat and Loot Tracker.)
  • The medallionrecovery status flagged for Greg. The player notes' loot rotation does not track the medallion. Possibilities: the Mephisto Twins took it as they left (their real reason for being at the auction); the party recovered it post-combat (un-listed); lost in the cone-of-cold chaos. (See Heiress's Medallion DM Notes for the campaign-arc consequences of each.)
